A fairly quiet WWDC in terms of Apple Device Management updates this year but a few new features none the less. Check out my roundup below.
Background Task Management: Securely install and manage scripts and executables via MDM in macOS Sequoia.
Managed Apple Accounts: Simplified adoption and management without needing identity provider federation.
Activation Lock Management: Admins can now disable Activation Lock on organisation-owned devices through Apple Business Manager, even if set by a personal account.
App Management: New tools for controlling hidden and locked apps on iOS/iPadOS 18.
Safari Extensions: Manage Safari extensions on supervised devices via MDM, including defining allowed extensions and controlling their activation.
Software Updates: Transition to a declarative management framework for better reliability. Same functionality but replacing existing MDM profile approach.
Beta Testing: Improved management of beta testing programs for Apple operating systems through DDM.
Vision Pro Enrollment: The Vision Pro can automatically enroll in MDM via Apple Business Manager.
